Taking Care Of Your Multimeter Digital Screen

New multimeter models often come with a backlit screen that makes it easy to take measurements in dim areas. But if you do not take proper precautions, the screen can wear out quickly.

With new technologies making multimeters increasingly more complex and expensive, it has never been more important to take care of your multimeter digital screen than it is now. This article provides tips on how to take care of your screen and keep it looking like new.

The first and most important matter is to keep your fingers off of the screen. The oil from your fingers will cause massive smudging on the small surface. Not only will this make your readings hard to see, but constantly wiping off your finger oil may damage the screen.

Turn it off when you're not using it.  Keep in mind that running the backlight continually is not recommended unless it is absolutely necessary. Using the backlight quickly drains the battery of power, and kills the life of your meter.

Don't try to fix it yourself. Should your backlight wear out and no longer work, do not try to fix it yourself, as you will void the warranty. If your multimeter is still under factory warranty (which is usually a lifetime warranty), you should contact the manufacturer for arrangements to get it fixed. Should by chance your unit be out of warranty, your best bet is still to contact the manufacturer as they will be able to recommend an authorized repair facility.
