Is the Fluke 117 the Right Multimeter for You?

With so many different brands and models of multimeters to choose from, you may be asking yourself if the Fluke 117 true RMS multimeter is the right one for you.  While relatively inexpensive, it is still a small investment for a professional device loaded with features.  You do not want to purchase a product that has too many features or not enough.  So, ask yourself some of these questions before you make your decision.

First, ask yourself if you really need a product that is suited for an electrician.

If you need to use the same high precision tools that an electrician would use, then the Fluke 117 might be just the right product for you.  It is suited best for an electrician because it does not concern itself with microamps or even milliamps.  You don't want to pay for a tool that can measure in this resolution if you will not be needing it.

Next, you should ask yourself if you need some of the other major features

For example, do you need RMS capabilities and non-contact voltage detection? As with any other purchase, take a little time to find out exactly which features you need before you decide to buy.
